A trusted voice in the community: Marcel Edjokola works to provide treatment for river blindness
Marcel Edjokola is a 46 year old father of two. When the ebola virus first appeared in his area, there was a lack of health workers, so he decided to volunteer to help his community. After the ebola crisis was over, he continued to volunteer as as a community health workers on a variety of health initiatives. He has built a reputation in the area, which means he is a trusted source for delivering medicine. Recently, he worked as a community health worker to distribute treatments for neglected tropical diseases. More than 53 million people require treatment for NTDs in the DRC and it is only because of people like Marcel that organizations are able to effectively distribute medicine.
